Pinterest Friday

My favorite Pinterest finds of the week (follow me here:  http://www.pinterest.com/trappedintime/).

I’ve cited photographer/etc where possible–that’s the down-side to Pinterest.  A lot of authership/ownership is lost in re-pins.

Pinterest Friday

Ah, Friday again!  Looking forward to a weekend filled with gardening, sewing & a crawfish boil!  Here’s to hoping the rain holds off for the outdoor activities, and that you have a fabulous weekend yourself!

So, like most of the world, I’m on pinterest (you can find me here:  http://www.pinterest.com/trappedintime/).

While I sat here today wondering what I’d post on this Friday– this Friday that has me finishing up some orders, shipping some others, looking forward to this evening (movie night with G–and POPCORN!), doing the generally boring, everyday things–I figured I’d share some of my favorite pinterest image finds from the week.

It’s my way of doing a blog post without really doing a blog post.  I’m sneaky like that.

2014 Winter Knits

As I mentioned yesterday–the images from the knits shoot are in!  And I couldn’t be happier.

Modeled by the gorgeous Mary Andrus (https://www.facebook.com/ModelMaryAndrus)

Hair & Make Up by Amanda Bravender  (For inquiries : http://www.ahbweddingandevents.co)

Now we get image-heavy (and I’m not even sharing HALF the images–even though I want to share them ALL):

Knits

Another sneak peek from the winter knits shoot–I canNOT wait to see all the images!

And, a couple of new knits that hit the shop over the weekend.  I didn’t manage to get them completed for the shoot, sadly, but I DID get my new photo studio together in order to snap some images for the shop.  (pictures of that later this week)

Image

Love this one–I mean, SEQUINS AND WARMTH?  Sign me up.  (you can find it here:  https://www.etsy.com/listing/104300695/multi-color-scarf-sequined-scarf-hand?ref=shop_home_active_12)

I love the natural-fiber look of this one.  (find it here:  https://www.etsy.com/listing/175544848/brown-chunky-cowl-wheat-knit-cowl?ref=shop_home_active_17)

Happy Monday!  It’s my sister’s 30th birthday today, and I’m wishing I was able to celebrate it with her.  Happy Birthday, Lexo-face!  You kick ass!

Finale

The final look for my mini RAWards collection was actually the second look I dreamed up, hot on the tail of the first look.  I knew I wanted Mary Andrus to model it from the get-go, too.

Initially, I envisioned a brocade bust with an extremely full chiffon skirt.  I even toyed with pockets.

Image

Paired with the tattered lace collar and the (not-gonna-happen) spats, it looked really cute.

I think I design things that I would wear if I were tall and thin.  Because I would so totally wear any of the things in my collection if I were.  Sadly, being of the oompa loompa persuasion, I must live vicariously through my beautiful models.

I decided to make the closure for this dress lace-up to accommodate a closer fit that wouldn’t have to be hiked up every few minutes.  I switched the chiffon idea over to a beautiful black lace with an attached black mini skirt lining.  The back is bustled and the overskirt is longer than the lining.

First fitting:

Mary looked beautiful, OF COURSE.  The top did need to be taken in quite a bit, so there was some deconstruction and re-construction in the dresses immediate future.

ImageBecause it’s Monday and she’s beautiful.

Image

Because my Halloween season is running full-tilt and my poor brain isn’t working all that well.

Image

Because posting pictures of a beautiful woman is just…..easier right now.

Image

Because I’ve loved her since high school.

Not that I need any “because”.

I mean, come on.

Halloween Shoot

Two weeks ago now, I was schlepping about in the swamp for a photo shoot.  Well, first I got lost.  Really, really lost.  Gravel road lost.  “Is that a banjo I hear playing” lost.  Seems they don’t need fancy things like, oh, STREET SIGNS, out in the swamp.

Image

Actually, there were a number of lovely homes around, and it wasn’t REALLY the middle of nowhere.  But, the street signs I needed were, in fact, not there.

Image

The shoot is really the brain-child of my friend Amanda of AHB Hair & Make up (www.ahbweddingandevents.com).  She does a big Halloween shoot each year, with a different theme.  Since we had pretty much not yet met in time for last years shoot, this was my first opportunity to play.

Image

Shot by Jennifer of Just Be Photojennic (www.facebook.com/justbephotojennic) and modeled by some really good sports (and theatre folks).

Image

I made the Voodoo Swamp Queen and Angel costumes from scratch.  The rest I thrifted and distressed/dyed/painted as needed.

Image

The storyline is roughly: Two kids at Grandma’s house are sent out to get an ingredient for her cooking, they take a short cut through the swamp and are nabbed by the Voodoo Queen and the Swamp Man, they get away, Angel comes, cleans up wounds, everyone’s happy, kids make it back to Grandma, end of story. 😉

Image

It’s been so long since I’ve had the opportunity to flex my theatrical costuming muscles–and this project really reminded me of how much I love and miss it.  Since moving to the La area, I really have not branched into the local theatre scene.   This made me think that I just might….after Halloween, of course.

That’s not all of the images, of course, but enough to give you an idea.  I’m waiting on more costume-specific ones (including some with the Angel in pointe shoes), and as I get those I’ll share.

The Voodoo Queen costume is up for sale in my shop now:  https://www.etsy.com/listing/165123657/swamp-witch-costume-voodoo-costume?ref=shop_home_active

A few other items from the shoot will be available for purchase soon.

This slinky number was made specifically for a photo shoot.

I have to admit, it’s a little sexier than I normally go for.

I’m kind of a costume nerdy girl…..more Helena Bonham Carter in regular life than Victoria Beckham.

So, I went back and forth and back and forth and back and forth on the neckline.

DSC_7896-Edit

I did compromise a wee bit–the original idea was for it to be cut to the navel….

I used the dress in my RAW runway show, too.

And, WOWZA, Mary brought that baby to LIFE.

I recently listed it in the shop.  (yes, it’s been cleaned)

DSC_7958-Edit

The belt is part of the sale–it’s actually made from a re-purposed leather purse strap.

GEscanelle-2489-Edit

I hope to make more of these in other colors and fabrics.
