Kate

ImageBecause it’s Monday and she’s beautiful.

Image

Because my Halloween season is running full-tilt and my poor brain isn’t working all that well.

Image

Because posting pictures of a beautiful woman is just…..easier right now.

Image

Because I’ve loved her since high school.

Image

Not that I need any “because”.

Image

I mean, come on.

Image

Kate Winslet, y’all.

Helena

Image

Because she’s pretty much how I’d dress all the time, were I to be able to afford Vivien Westwood….and to be slightly further off my rocker.

Image

Because I love her work and her look.

helena2

She’s kind of like a fairytale, really.  “All the ancient classic fairy tales have always been scary and dark”  Yes.

helena3

“Usually I’m frustrated when I look at my films and I don’t believe that I’ve made a real transformation beyond my usual sets of gestures and expressions. I still have this nagging feeling that it’s me, that I didn’t create a unique character.”

helena4

“I hate this image of me as a prim Edwardian. I want to shock everyone.”

helena5

“You become very angry and depressed that you keep getting offered only these exceedingly demure and repressed roles. They’re so not me. That’s why films like Fight Club were so important to me because I think I confounded certain stereotypes and limited perceptions of what I could do as an actress”

helena6

“People have lots of misconceptions about me. My mum, who is half French and half Spanish, gets outraged when I’m called quintessentially English. I owe my looks to my mum-which was 90 percent of getting my first job. And, some people would argue, 90 percent of my entire career.”
helena7

“Journalists are always calling my features Edwardian or Victorian, whatever that means. I am small, and people were smaller in those times. I’m pale and sickly-looking. I look fragile-like a doll. But sometimes I just wish I had less of a particular look, one that was more versatile.”helena8

” I have to struggle to change people’s perceptions of me. I grew very frustrated with the perception that I’m this shy, retiring, inhibited aristocratic creature when I’m absolutely not like that at all. I think I’m much more outgoing and exuberant than my image.”helena9

“I drink booze, I smoke, and I’m hooked on caffeine. I actually have been known to swear at times and belch and even raise my voice when provoked.”

Friday Favorite

I recently purchased this beautiful print from peachpatrol on etsy.

triangle

Located in Australia, there was a bit of a wait for the post to get it together and get this to me.

I was almost breathless with anticipation.  I was so excited for it.

When it arrived last week, it surpassed ALL expectations.

SO SO SO amazingly beautiful in person!  Lovely little extras included in the package.

I cannot wait to get this matted and framed.

Also:  I will definitely be ordering more prints.  I just have to choose.

I’m a bit of an art hoarder.  I’m so grateful for prints–since my budget doesn’t allow for originals (yet).

We’re re-doing our living room, and I plan to pretty much have ALL the walls covered in art.  You better believe this lovely lady will have a place of honor.

Sissy

sissy

Because, I’ve always thought she was beautiful.

sissy1

I often times had to fight people on that.

sissy2

I love freckles and gingers.

sissy3

I might be biased….

sissy4

She plays her roles with such a beautiful balance of fragility and strength.

sissy5

She’s so petite, you feel like you could crush her with just a look.

sissy6

Maybe part of my love is bound up in the 70s–being a child of the 70s (well, really more a child of the 80s), I guess I have nostalgia automatically built into my ideas of her.

sissy7

That, and the whole “Carrie” thing…..I mean, girlfriend kicked some ass.

sissy8

I was *this close* to being named Carrie, but my father put the stop to it, worrying that I’d get made fun of, due to the film.

sissy9

I love-love-love her in “Blast from the Past”.  I think I’d be her in that situation.

sissy10

Though I’d most likely be much more vocal and poorly dressed…

Ghostly

ghost4

Still struggling with getting my butt into the right rhythm and on the right schedule. I think this might take awhile.

ghost5

So, while I struggle to stay awake long enough to sew, you can feast your eyes on this Mondays offering:  slightly ghostly, but totally lovely.

TnT Tuesday

This week I’m featuring an item that was out of stock for quite some time–and also happens to be one of my best sellers.

redheart1

My velveteen capelets are, if I do say so myself, rather fabulous.

My solid version was featured on brides.com a couple of years ago, and I still get traffic from the site.

redheart3

These were unavailable for awhile.  I’ve recently re-listed them as custom/made to order options.  Not sure why this didn’t occur to me sooner.

This one is customize-able in color and trim options.

redheart2

A lot of brides have ordered these.  I love learning what people are wearing my creations for–and I love getting pictures even more! 😉

I initially created these as part of my Little Red Riding Hood costumes, but had so many requests for just the capelet that I went ahead and started making them a separate option.

redheart4

The inside of my serger in always filled with red fluff from these.  Always.

redheart5

You can order here:  https://www.etsy.com/listing/90390398/red-capelet?ref=shop_home_feat

Rest and Relaxation

Kicking the week off with a 4am wake up call has inspired within me a fierce desire to lay about in a sunshiney meadow.  Lazy fuzzy bumbling bumble bees bumping from flower to flower, dragonflies perching on my toe to see what I’m up to.  The sun warming my face, a good book to keep me company.

Marilyn

marilyn

I know, obvious, right?

marilyneight

But, sometimes you just need to state it.

marilynfive

We all know she got kind of a bum rap.

marilynfour

She got labeled the bombshell (and, let’s be fair–she played the role) and, when she wanted to bust out of it, she really couldn’t.

marilynnine

I always just want to give her a big hug when I see her on screen.

marilynsix

Just a big hug and a whisper in her ear to run in the opposite direction that she was headed in.

American Masters: Marilyn Monroe

I wish her stage work was available to see. Is it?  Am I missing something?

marilynten

Ohhhh, how wonderful it would be to see that.

marilynthree

Everything I’ve read and heard points to the fact that she gave her best performances on stage, in classes.

marilynseven

Regardless, she’s beautiful.  I always prefer the un-made-up Marilyn.  The fresh faced Marilyn.  The Marilyn that wasn’t being Marilyn.  The peek at Norma.

Dance

The first couple of images from the dance photo shoot have been released–they’re AMAZING!  (you might remember my posts about making the costume for this from about a month ago)

Breathtaking, right?

These beautiful images inspired today’s post.  I’ve always been fascinated by ballet.  I wanted to be a ballerina, of course, when a child.  Sadly, my talents did not lie in that arena.  Happily, I can feast my eyes on the beauty that is ballet anytime I so choose.
