Weekly Wrap Up

Let’s just jump in, shall we?  As if 3 months hadn’t passed…..

This week:

I (finally) jumped into 2016 and upgraded to an iPhone.  First thing my sister said was “download Neko Atsume immediately”.  I’m in love with the kitties!  Obsessed with the kitties!  Games that are adorable and require very little from me are high on my list of good times.

A few Mardi Gras pieces yet to finish up, a complete over-haul of the studio (I hope) and a new online shop are all on the horizon.

Happy Friday–weekend here I come!  (after I finish this stack of orders….)

Success!

The new shoot was a full success!

I mean, I know I’m the one saying it, so maybe take that with a grain of salt.

But, I think the new look really makes the items pop in the listings.

I already have the next shoot scheduled, and hope to have the majority of the shop switched over to the new style within the next few months.

I commented to G the other day that the only things I have to talk about–indeed, the only things I think about–are all work-related.

I must be a true bore.

I need to get out into the garden this weekend!

Go fishing! (we totally got our fishing licenses this past weekend–both of us love fishing, but have never fished down here!  G grew up fishing in the Bahamas, and I grew up fishing in MN.  So, it’s a new adventure)

Maybe then I’ll have more to discuss…and be a tad more interesting. 😉

Mardi Gras Shoot

After a long (looooooooong) and unintentional blog-hiatus, I’m back!

Really, that was a long time to be away.

Blame instagram–it’s so much easier to post a picture with a one-liner, and go about my merry way.

Also:  business has been pretty kick ass since before Halloween, and I’ve been busy sewing (and upgrading my studio).

I figured some images from a Mardi Gras themed shoot I did this week would be in order for my first post back in this cob-web-filled space.

These are just images that I took–I’m anxiously (yet patiently) waiting for the final edits from Underexposed Photography, whom you’ll recognize from past shoots.

This Week

It’s raining and dreary and I’ve gotten my errands done for the day.

Sewing a new bustle on my 1946 machine

A mug of coffee (or two), a quick post, and then it’s off to the studio to get to work!

I’ve cut a lot out this week, and sewn up a few things.

A soft little floral number--totally not the normal style of print I use, but something about it called out to me at the Fabric Store the other day!

I should have photographed more….but…..I’m lazy, and it’s raining!

I guess that means a photo-shoot with my dress form this weekend.

We got a little portable record player last weekend, and I've been loving it!

As mentioned, I ran some errands today (which, sadly, is a Big Thing, as I rarely leave the house these days–unless it’s to the Post or the Fabric Store).  I snuck in a trip to the thrift store–which is one of my favorite places.

This gigantic wall hanging came home with me today--it's a batik image on fabric that has been mounted and framed. I'd been admiring it for awhile, and bought it spur-of-the-moment today. I love it!

I snagged some great stuff–tons of records, patterns, pictures….

The garden is in full swing, and I planted a few new things this past weekend–and they’re already popping up!

We’ll be canning this weekend–the first time for Hubby, so should be a good time!

Hope you have a beautiful weekend–what are your plans?

Lately

At least it’s Friday.

I was up most of the night.  For no reason, other than I do that sometimes.  I wake up in the middle of the night, and proceed to worry and think and brainstorm and toss and turn and stay awake for hours.

I felt like someone poked me in the back twice, when no one was around, this morning.

And then an old, broken, and unplugged surge protector started making horrible, loud, long beeps.

So, it’s been…..interesting around the ol’ household this morning.

I’ve been sewing away over the week, and slowly editing images from Monday’s shoot.

I’ve made ruffle leggings (now on their way to Austin, TX), a couple of child’s capelets (headed to Alberta, Canada) and a bustier (on it’s way to IL) for customer orders.

I’ve sewed up dresses and bustles and bustiers for listing in the shop.

And, as mentioned, I’ve been editing images from Monday’s little shoot–and listing the new items in all THREE of my shops (Etsy, ArtFire, & RebelsMarket).

These are my absolute favorite tops right now.  I wear one almost every day, layered with a tank top.  So comfy, and easy to wear.  I hope I’m not the only person in the world who likes them….though then I’d have a LOT to choose from…..

I still have quite a few images to edit and more new items to get listed, but I’m only doing one per day.  To save my brain.

While all this sewing has been happening, I’ve been listening to:

Pinterest Wednesday

Another Wednesday? What?  This week is flying by.  Had a little photo shoot Monday morning, and I’m still editing images from that.  (if you’re a fan of my facebook page, you’ve seen some of the new images and items for sale)  Hope to have some to share in Friday’s post.

Until then, you get my favorite Pinterest finds of the week!

Swing

So, I missed Monday’s post…..and then I missed yesterday’s post. For no good reason, I assure you. I’m not out enjoying the sun (gah! too hot!!). I’m not out enjoying my garden (gah! too hot!!). I’m not even out doing glamorous photo shoots (gah! too hot!!).

You may have noticed a theme here.

I moved down to Louisiana almost 7 years ago, from Minnesota. I’d spent my summers here since I could remember, and spent my first few years of life here (which I DON’T remember), so the heat in the summer was not a surprise. And, while I hate sweating (which I do in copious amounts, I assure you), I hate 7 months of un-ending tundra-like, nose-hair-freezing, trying-to-kill-you cold even MORE.

But, still. You guys, it’s HOT. It’s go-out-to-turn-the-sprinkler-on-so-the-garden-doesn’t-die-and-come-back-inside-a-sweaty-mess HOT. It’s “hey, do you want to go out to dinner?” “Hell no, I’d have to go OUTSIDE FOR THAT” HOT.

So, maybe it’s no surprise that my mind, and thus my inspiration of late, has turned to flowy, loose fitting garments.

I’ve sewn up a few fabulous retro designs over the last couple of days (and will share more tomorrow). I hope I’m not the only one out there dreaming of trapeze dresses, tunics and tent-dresses. Cuz, if so, I’m going to have a lot of stock on my hands pretty soon.

Some inspiration, found on Pinterest:

(P.S.  WordPress has apparently changed how I can add pictures, and it’s making me cranky.  CRANKY.)
