Pinterest Friday

My favorite Pinterest finds of the week (follow me here:  http://www.pinterest.com/trappedintime/).

I’ve cited photographer/etc where possible–that’s the down-side to Pinterest.  A lot of authership/ownership is lost in re-pins.

This Week

You may have noticed that my shops are all on vacation this week.  Only a temporary hiatus while I catch up on orders and regroup a bit.  I expect to be back up and running in a couple of weeks.

As mentioned, I’m using this time to catch up on orders.  But FIRST, I had to complete the doll pairing for my nieces:

Image

A red chiffon skirt/dress (shown as a dress since is so LOOOOOOONG):

A couple of sparkly cowl-neck tunics flew off to the UK:

An Alice dress is in the works for a lucky actress:

And a striped tunic, bustle and military hat came off the machines, too:

All-in-all, a productive week so far.  Hope yours is going well, too!

TnT Tuesday

Image

I love these crop tops.

I have a couple myself, and need to make a few more.

I’m a huge fan of layering, you see.

Image

A friend once laughed at me, when I lamented having had a hard time figuring out what to wear one day–this is back when I had an office job.

He said–“What do you mean?  All you do is:  tank top, t-shirt, cardigan, and GO!”.

Which hit it on the head.  That really nails down my clothing–tank top, top over that and cardigan, if the second top has short or no sleeves.

Image

Which is why these are a great wardrobe addition for me.  Tank top (possible two in contrasting colors) and crop top.  Done.  Comfortable, easy to wear, and goes with anything.

I have a few new fabrics to make some of these out of–wild prints!  PRINTS!  I never use wild prints, so I’m excited to get making them.  Once my stack of orders is diminished, that is.

Weekend Happenings

Wow, that weekend flew by.  And I mean flew.

A little work in the yard & garden was accomplished….but very little.

Mostly, I was inside, sewing up a special Easter treat for one of my nieces!

Image

I used Simplicity 1900 (find the pattern here: http://www.simplicity.com/p-7473-doll-and-clothes.aspx) , and it went together pretty easily–the legs and arms made me want to scream out in frustration, but only because they’re so teeny and fiddly–ugh!

The fabric for the dress is a Japanese print that I bought before I even HAD nieces.  But I bought such small yardages of it (it was crazy expensive), I had never found a project small enough to use it in.  Until now.  🙂  I couldn’t be happier with it–so pretty, and perfect for an Easter dress.

Another one is in the works for the other niece.

The garden is growing.  Slowly.  (I’m an impatient gardener)

Image

The sage bloomed.  I know I should cut the flowers, to keep the sage growing, but I hate to cut them–the bees love them.

Image

Speaking of bees–after many, many, many attempts–I managed to capture (in a photo) one of my bumble bee buddies!  They hover around me the whole time I’m outside, yet when I try to snap a picture, suddenly they have an urgent meeting to attend.

Image

The roses are exploding!

Image

And, I did the taxes.  I always wait until pretty much the last minute.

Hope your weekend was lovely and felt longer than mine!

Over the Weekend

The weekend saw a stomach virus take down the Mr.  I’ve managed to avoid it so far (*knocks on wood*), and was able to get some work done in the garden and yard.  Weekends are pretty much devoted to that right now–I’m determined to be a good Southern gal with a kick-ass garden and beautiful yard.  😉

Things are getting greener and greener everyday around here, and it’s so amazing to see little plants popping up all over the place.

I’m fascinated with the garden, and love this time of year.  Everything is new and bright and vibrant.  And the heat isn’t trying to kill me yet.

The first rose of the season is rather bashful:

Image

An explosion of roses is imminent:

Image

The sage is about to bloom:

Image

The veggie garden, as it looks today.  We’ll be adding more boxes outside the fenced area, and I plan to do some raised beds along the fence, too (assuming I can get the Mr to build them).  It looks brown and sad right now due to the mulch we’re using this year in place of the weed barrier we’ve gone with in previous years (and that I think caused the soil to get too hot).  I can’t wait until you see more green than brown!

Image

Peppers in pots.

Image

Tomatoes and wee seedlings that you can barely see.

Image

Tomatoes–mostly from store-bought plants this year, but I have one from seed at the end of the row (too tiny to see right now):

Image

Hello Mr. Collards!

Image

Wee zucchini:

Image

Sugar snow peas, not quite tall enough to climb the trellis:

Image

And arugula on the other side–I’m hoping the snow peas will shade the arugula so we can enjoy it for a little longer this year–it’s our favorite green:

Image

I hope gardening posts aren’t excruciatingly dull for you all.  It’s kind of what I’m obsessed with most at the moment, so be prepared for more.  I’ll try to keep it to one post a week. 😉

Pinterest Friday

Ah, Friday again!  Looking forward to a weekend filled with gardening, sewing & a crawfish boil!  Here’s to hoping the rain holds off for the outdoor activities, and that you have a fabulous weekend yourself!

Work In Progress

The Wicked Witch replica dress is still in the works.  *this close* to being done.

Image

I only have the dress photographed (and poorly at that) so far.  Note the dress form she’s on is slightly too small….

Image

Can’t wait to get better pictures and the whole costume together!  Hopefully this weekend will allow me some time to do so.

It’s definitely been a longer process than anticipated.  Cobbling together the pattern and making it all work together proved to be more intensive than I had imagined.  But, it’s looking beautiful, and will soon be offered on a made-to-order basis in my shops.  🙂

Spring

Spring has started to show it’s face around these parts in bursts and bright colors.

Image

The azaleas have exploded in a hot pink fury of petals.

Image

The bees are in heaven.

Image

We have 5 regular big, fat, bumble bees that visit.

Image

They hover around me anytime I’m in the garden.

Image

Like they want to play.

I talk with them, and they buzz and zoom and dive.

Image

I’m so glad they finally have some flowers to revel in!

Image

A Pinterest thread led me to try growing some veg from cuttings that would normally go into the compost.

Image

My kitchen window is bursting with wee romaine lettuces.

Image

Scallions, too–which grow so fast!

Image

I have plans to try the romaine in some potting soil next–perhaps a window box on the inside of the kitchen window?

It will be too, too hot for those dainty leaves all too soon outside.

Seedlings are emerging in the garden–I hope to snap some pics this weekend.

We’re back from an impromptu visit to SC.  Two 12-hour drives within 4 days!  A “Frozen” themed birthday party for an amazing 8-year-old.  Much fun was had, and not a single picture did I manage to take.  *sigh*

TnT Tuesday

Image

I love this black and gold striped fabric.

Image

Sadly, I haven’t been able to find it for some time now.

Image

Made into a stunning bustier (which I loooooove).  I’ve made these for a few years now.  This is the last of the line, until I can magically acquire more fabric (fingers crossed).

Image

Lined in black twill.

Image

Flexible boning sewn into the lining.

Image

Grommets and a modesty panel in back.

Image

So pretty with formal as well as casual looks.

Image

bust: 29-32 inches
waist: 25-28 inches
